Saved time and improved workflow

Elin Weilow,
Specialist nurse
Urologifocus
For Specialist nurse Elin and her colleagues at Urologifocus, the collaboration with Inify has made a significant difference. With fast and reliable test results, they can now schedule patient follow-ups at the time of biopsy, reducing patient anxiety and creating a more efficient clinic workflow.

At Urologifocus’ clinic in Stockholm, patients are welcomed into a modern environment where they receive examinations and treatment for urological diseases and conditions. The clinic provides care for both women and men, including treatment for tumors and benign conditions in the kidneys, prostate, and urinary tract, with a strong focus on high-quality, patient-centred care.

Elin, a Specialist nurse and administrative assistant at Urologifocus, shares, “The biggest difference for us since we started using Inify is the time we save. Not having to call the pathologist to inquire about a test result that has not yet arrived frees up time for patient care. We schedule follow-up appointments for the patient at the time of the biopsy, as the results are always available within a week. We know we will have the results within the guaranteed time, but they usually arrive much sooner.”

Elin further explains that they no longer have to spend time rebooking patients or calling them to inform them about delayed test results. "It can cause a lot of extra worry if a patient is already thinking, 'I might have cancer,'" she says. "Now we don’t have to deal with that at all." This also saves the patients’ time since they don’t need to re-plan their appointments.

A report facilitating treatment decisions

Tommy Bergman, Consultant Urologist at Urologifocus, explains that much of their work involves investigating and following up on prostate cancer. Many patients are referred from primary care due to elevated PSA values*, and the clinic also receives referrals from other hospitals for investigation of prostate cancer and other urological disorders.

“What I like about Inify´s report is that it’s image-based, which makes it much easier to quickly see exactly where the biopsies were taken and which ones are positive for cancer. Compared to reading a long text, where it takes more time to understand where the biopsies were taken. This is especially important for us urologists when we move on to the next step of discussing treatment. The report becomes a tool in deciding how the patient should be operated on— for example, whether nerve-sparing surgery can be performed or not, ” says Dr Bergman.

As a nurse, Elin meets with patients when they receive their diagnosis and describes how she has found the visual report useful. “By showing the red and green markings that indicate which biopsies contain cancer and which are benign, patients can better understand their diagnosis. It can sometimes be difficult to process the details of a cancer diagnosis, but this way, they get a clearer picture of their situation.”

The collaboration and the clinic’s perspective

Elin sees the collaboration with Inify as an opportunity to be at the forefront. “We have been involved from the beginning and had a chance to contribute with our clinic´s perspective in the work with prostate cancer. Inify is very open to our feedback and has continuously strived to make the process as simple and efficient as possible for us, ” she says.

The clinic sees a great advantage in having all contact regarding the management of prostate biopsies centralised in one place - covering everything from logistics and test results to administration and material orders. This has made planning much easier. Since they can always rely on receiving test results from Inify within 5 working days, they can confidently schedule follow-up appointments just a week after the biopsy. This allows them to exceed the targets set by the standardised care pathway for prostate cancer, which requires that patients receive their diagnosis within 11 days of the biopsy.

Dr Bergman further emphasises the importance of Inify’s work in ensuring high-quality and reliable prostate cancer pathways. He sees it as a major advantage that the medical assessment of their tissue samples is always performed by subspecialised uropathologists. “The test result is crucial for prostate cancer treatment, and with Inify, we feel confident that we can trust the diagnosis and have the right conditions to make the best decision for the next step. We are extremely satisfied with the collaboration and appreciate their attentiveness to our challenges and our practice, “ he concludes.
